TRADE POLICY OF UKRAINE UNDER CONDITIONS OF ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION AND EUROPEAN INTEGRATION

Abstract
Introduction. In the context of globalization, European integration processes, and the challenges caused by military aggression, trade policy has become one of the key instruments for ensuring Ukraine’s economic stability and competitiveness. Modern trade policy is aimed not only at regulating foreign economic activity but also at stimulating domestic production, supporting exports, attracting investments, and strengthening the country’s position in international markets. Under conditions of economic transformation, Ukraine is implementing comprehensive reforms focused on improving the structure of exports, developing value-added production, diversifying foreign markets, and adapting national legislation to European Union standards.
Purpose. The purpose of the article is to study the current state of Ukraine's foreign trade under martial law, identify the main reasons for the formation of the trade deficit, assess the impact of external and internal factors on the development of export-import processes, and justify a set of state trade policy measures aimed at minimizing the trade imbalance.
Results. The study reveals that Ukraine’s trade policy is undergoing significant transformation in response to contemporary economic and geopolitical challenges. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of the National Export Strategy, the development of export support mechanisms, the promotion of value-added production, import substitution policies, and the expansion of trade relations with the European Union and emerging markets. The research demonstrates the importance of institutional support, digitalization of trade processes, and integration into global value chains. The analysis confirms that strengthening export potential and improving the commodity structure of exports contribute to increasing economic resilience and sustainable development.
Originality. The originality of the study lies in the comprehensive assessment of the interrelationship between trade policy instruments, export development, economic modernization, and European integration processes. The article substantiates the role of trade policy as a strategic tool for enhancing national competitiveness and ensuring long-term economic growth under conditions of uncertainty and structural transformation.
Conclusion. The research concludes that the effectiveness of Ukraine’s trade policy largely depends on the successful implementation of export-oriented reforms, the development of domestic production capacities, the diversification of foreign markets, and the harmonization of trade regulations with EU standards. Strategic priorities include supporting high value-added exports, improving trade infrastructure, stimulating investment activity, and expanding international economic cooperation. The implementation of these measures will contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s economic security, increasing export revenues, and ensuring sustainable economic development in the long term.
